Coffee Station for School

I'm starting to get back into the school mode since I have only 10 days before the new school year begins. I decided to make a coffee station. This idea started with 4 white cups I bought at Marshall's. I wanted to try drawing letters on them with a Sharpie marker and then baking the mugs so the marker became permanent. I decided to write A-R-T on 3 cups. photo imagejpg1-637.jpg So while I was waiting for the cups to bake & cool, I took a wood crate and added magazine art and some cork board to the inside/back of the crate. I set a jar with creamer & sweeteners, a coffee can, and a drink bottle that looks like a spray can on the bottom shelf. I added a journal & the little pig for fun! photo imagejpg1-2473.jpg Once my cups were cool, I hung them on the bottom of the crate and then attached a jar with teabags. photo imagejpg1-1195.jpg

Decorative Whiteboard

The frame on this wood whiteboard has 3 colors of paint; cream, rose and blue. I sanded it after the paint was dry to give it a distressed look. Then I drew the music part on the bottom, and lightly sanded it. The whiteboard was cut out to fit the frame, and the flower & bottle were added to hold stuff. photo imagejpg1-2033.jpg photo imagejpg1-451.jpg photo imagejpg1-910.jpg

Repurposed Fabric Collaged & Message Board Window

This window needed to be cleaned up and some of the paint had to be scraped off because it was thick and messy. Next I made a fabric collage for the bottom 2 window panes. Then I cut a piece of whiteboard for the top pane and added a piece of cork board. To finish it off I attached the tags & hooks to the bottom of the window and topped it off with the flower on the side. photo imagejpg1-708.jpg photo imagejpg1-876.jpg photo imagejpg1-1846.jpg

Vintage Window Picture/Collage & Easel

When I saw this easel it was love at first sight! The paint was perfectly chippy and the color was spot on. It is in Michael's room and I wasn't sure what kind of picture to put with it. Then my sister traded me some old windows for a vintage medicin cabinet. I took one of the windows and put family pictures of us from before Mike & I were married, to when Michael was born, early years, collage and now with he and his girlfriend Amanda. Each pane is separate so new pictures it can be added to it. photo imagejpg1-1334.jpg photo imagejpg1-1119.jpg photo imagejpg1-1332.jpg

Succulent Garden Chair

I bought this chair earlier in the summer. It's very cute but the metal seat was broken. I originally created a succulent cactus basket to fit in the seat, but it was too small to sit in the hole. So today I went around the house looking for a bucket or bowl that would fit just right. I found a metal bowl, painted it white and pounded some holes in the bottom for drainage. Last but not least, I set my succulent garden delights in it! photo imagejpg1-1455.jpg photo imagejpg1-1448.jpg photo imagejpg1-392.jpg

Metal License Plate Tags

I keep seeing things made out of old license plates, and I decided to try it out. I have 4 or 5 license plates. I chose the letters, numbers and symbols that I wanted to cut out. I wasn't sure what to cut the metal out with so I took a guess and used these scissors. It worked pretty well. photo imagejpg1-329.jpg The edges were pretty sharp and so I used a file to smooth them out and round the corners. photo imagejpg1-2270.jpg Next, I drilled some holes in the metal so I could make a tag or keychain. photo imagejpg1-1208.jpg You can put the letters together to make a word, or just add an initial to enhance something.

Necklace Holder, Sign, and Closet Disaster!

Yesterday I had such good intensions about getting some new posts ready for my blog. I made another necklace holder out of old wood and fuses. photo imagejpg1-896.jpg Then I painted a piece of old wood to make a sign. photo imagejpg1-778.jpg After that I thought I would clean 1 room in my house really well. I have completed the laundry room and my son's room. I walked by my closet and the pole holding my shirts and dresses had pulled itself out of the wall. This was totally my fault because it was so heavy and I just kept hanging more clothes on it. I do have a thing for clothes and it was time to purge! I had intended on doing this, but now the choice of when was no longer an option. Plus, I had to ask my husband to redo the pole in the closet, and he was busy. Well, he thought it was funny, even when their were piles of clothes all over our bedroom. I did not think it was funny!! I piled clothes up for the thrift store, made a pile to take to my sister, a stack to go to the dry cleaners, and hung the rest back up. I even hung them by colors. It felt good to get it done, but oh, brother! I figure the closet counts as a room, so that's one more off my list.

Vintage Rake/Scarf Hanger

This rake was in the storage shed doing nothing but sitting there, so I decided to take it apart and use it. All I had to do was unscrew the handle and hang it up with twine. I've seen them used for wine glass holders, but I needed something to hang my scarves on. Quick & easy! photo imagejpg1-199.jpg photo imagejpg1-200.jpg

Repurposed Candle Holder

I saw this candle holder at the thrift store, and I thought it would be perfect for storing jewelry findings in. The pieces are all in one place, but each of the different jewelry parts are separated and easy to see in the glass cups. Every time i go to Michaels, Hobby Lobby or craft shows I bring stuff home, and now I just need to sit still and make some pretty jewelry! photo imagejpg1-192.jpg photo imagejpg1-193.jpg photo imagejpg1-194.jpg photo imagejpg1-195.jpg photo imagejpg1-196.jpg photo imagejpg1-198.jpg

Sew Summer!

I found 2 lounge chairs that were mismatched but could be cute if re-done with some quilt pieces and pillows. This blue chair was a little sun bleached. ] photo imagejpg1-189.jpg I started out by taking a big piece of quilt I had left from another project and cut it in half. There was exactly enough to do both chairs. I just sewed a single piece of quilt to the top and bottom of the chair and stitched the quilted edge under. The chair already had a little pillow at the top and so I just stitched a quilt piece around it. photo imagejpg1-190.jpg The last thing I made were some pillows to make it comfy and cozy! I put a little stand next to the chair, and I am ready for a summer evening outside. Now I just have to finish the other chair for my hubby! photo imagejpg1-191.jpg

Industrial Piggybank

I found 2 of these glass gallon bottles today and I thought they would make super cute piggybacks! I took one of them and painted my initials & favorite number on the front of it with glass paint. Then I took a sprinkler knob and a glass door knob and put them together for my stopper. photo imagejpg1-185.jpg photo imagejpg1-186.jpg The next jar lid was made from a ceramic flower. photo imagejpg1-187.jpg The last lid is just a vintage ceramic doorknob. photo imagejpg1-188.jpg These jars would be cute with handmade labels, pictures, or any old thing on the front. You could use them for banks, drinks, buttons, or other small objects. I have to go, I want to get some more jars before they are all gone!

Outside Art Space

Today I decided it would be nice to have a space outside to create new art. I used a metal stand, some old wood and a piece of glass for my table. I had a hickory chair and added some cushions to make it comfortable to sit. I had an antique canning holder with some old jars to put my art & sewing tools in. Next came a vase with fresh roses. Then, a major rain storm came and I ran for cover! You just never know about Arizona monsoons!! photo imagejpg1-183.jpg photo imagejpg1-184.jpg

Amazing 4th of July! Colorado Rockies and The Cherry Creek Art Festival!!

I had the most wonderful 4th of July! My husband planned a trip for us to go and see the Colorado Rockies play baseball. We flew into Denver and stayed downtown. We played tourist the first day. We found our favorite eatery called The Yardhouse. The second day we went to the Colorado History Museum. I have to say it wouldn't have been my first choice to visit, and it was so incredible! While we were there we saw Indian Dancing and learned the history of the dances from the performing family. photo imagejpg1-182.jpg Then we went to see the Rockies play the L.A. Dodgers. We went early to watch batting practice and look around Coors Field. photo imagejpg1-178.jpg photo imagejpg1-179.jpg After the game there was a fireworks show. It was simply fab! photo imagejpg1-180.jpg The following day we went to The Cherry Creek Art Festival. Oh my goodness, the artist's are so amazing! It is so inspiring to see all of the various artwork and techniques. My favorites were Amy Flynn who makes mixed media Fobots, Nathan Falter who does ceramics that look like oil cans, Valerie Bunnell who does mixed media sculptures and my husband's favorite was Theodore Gall who creates sculptures of bronze heads. This man's work was out of this world! He creates these faces and they open up and you see more intricate art. It's art inside of art. He was at the Scottsdale Art Festival in March, and if he comes back next year, make sure you go and see his art! photo imagejpg1-181.jpg I have to thank my husband because we had so much fun and he is the best husband in the entire world!!
