Time Will Tell

I wish I could say I stitched this beauty up, but I found it at the thrift store for $2.00. When I see something like this I think of the person who spent the time creating it. It must have taken them hours and there it is selling for $2.00. Well, whoever made this, I appreciate your time and talent, and I will cherish your work while I enjoy it in my home. photo dbff98c9-976b-4324-9e36-1c03c75b5f91.jpg

Do Small Things With Great Love

I found the pattern for the saying "Do Small Things With Great Love" on a wonderful blog called Nana & Co. Check it out, especially if you love to make baby gifts or beautiful quilted projects. I embroidered the saying on a needlework piece that I started a while back. photo image-8.jpg

Harvest Moon Kale

Three years ago I bought a Kale plant, and I loved it! Actually, I still have it and it has grown out of the pot and is hanging down from the plant stand. I have looked for more and finally saw some white and purple Kale at Lowes. My heart danced with delight! This has nothing to do with art or sewing, but it made me so happy. It is easy to grow and I think it is so cool. photo cd52e577-63b9-4aa0-a60f-99e56d57f1f2.jpg

Metal Wire Chair

I purchased this chair at a sale close to home. I tore strips of chenille fabric and wove it between the metal bars. Then I made a cushion for the seat. Next I sewed some fabric on the front of the cushion to dress it up a bit. Finally, I took a pillow I had made earlier and set it towards the back of the chair for extra comfort. I have this chair at school and I told the kids I would give it away at the end of the year to someone who has tried extra hard in my classes. Pretty smart, arn't I ?! photo we-ch1.jpg photo wea-ch.jpg photo d802b2f6-aaf6-4a73-9aa5-318ef3b5ddd6.jpg

Antique Printer Tray

As I was working on my chair, I thought it might be fun to share the antique printer tray I have hanging just above my chair. I have had it for years, and each little space has bits of history and sentiments from my life. photo tray1.jpg photo tray2.jpg

Patchwork Textile Chair & Ottoman

In the January issue of "Where Women Create," I read an article featuring Carol Hicks Bolton. She has an antique store in Texas, and her displays are amazing!! The entire store is amazing. I really loved everything she creates and displays. I especially loved the chairs she covers with textiles. I have a chair and ottoman in my art room at home. This is what it looked like before I was inspired by this article. photo chair1.jpg I pulled out my old textiles and recovered the chair & Ottoman, and this is what it looks like now! photo chair3.jpg photo chair2.jpg If you love old stuff, check out carolhicksbolton.com. It really is amazing! It inspired me to fix up a corner of my art room, and I will enjoy sitting in my chair instead of stacking material on it!

Something New

Here are a couple of projects I am working on now. The first is a Dr. Seuss quilt for a family friend's baby to be. I drew the pictures onto the fabric and I am hand painting the images. photo seuss.jpg The second project is a weaving I have started using muslin fabric strips. photo weave.jpg

Pooh

Winnie the Pooh has always held a special place in my heart. My son was a big Eeyore fan. We still have the tattered old Eeyore he carted around when he was a little boy. It was stitched up many times, but boy was it loved! When I saw this little bib in an antique store in town, I couldn't resist buying it. My favorite words from Pooh's Grand Adventures are as follows; "If ever there is tomorrow when we are not together, there is something you must remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart, I'll always be with you." These words are for you Michael. I will always love you and be with you. Mom photo pooh.jpg
