I decided to make a coffee station. This idea started with 4 white cups I bought at Marshall's. I wanted to try drawing letters on them with a Sharpie marker and then baking the mugs so the marker became permanent. I decided to write
A-R-T on 3 cups.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-637.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-637.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-637.jpg"/></a>
So while I was waiting for the cups to bake & cool, I took a wood crate and added magazine art and some cork board to the inside/back of the crate. I set a jar with creamer & sweeteners, a coffee can, and a drink bottle that looks like a spray can on the bottom shelf. I added a journal & the little pig for fun!
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-2473.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-2473.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-2473.jpg"/></a>
Once my cups were cool, I hung them on the bottom of the crate and then attached a jar with teabags.

I sanded it after the paint was dry to give it a distressed look. Then I drew the music part on the bottom, and lightly sanded it. The whiteboard was cut out to fit the frame, and the flower & bottle were added to hold stuff.

Next I made a fabric collage for the bottom 2 window panes. Then I cut a piece of whiteboard for the top pane and added a piece of cork board. To finish it off I attached the tags & hooks to the bottom of the window and topped it off with the flower on the side.

The paint was perfectly chippy and the color was spot on. It is in Michael's room and I wasn't sure what kind of picture to put with it. Then my sister traded me some old windows for a vintage medicin cabinet. I took one of the windows and put family pictures of us from before Mike & I were married, to when Michael was born, early years, collage and now with he and his girlfriend Amanda. Each pane is separate so new pictures it can be added to it.

It's very cute but the metal seat was broken. I originally created a succulent cactus basket to fit in the seat, but it was too small to sit in the hole. So today I went around the house looking for a bucket or bowl that would fit just right. I found a metal bowl, painted it white and pounded some holes in the bottom for drainage. Last but not least, I set my succulent garden delights in it!
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-1455.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-1455.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-1455.jpg"/></a>

I have 4 or 5 license plates. I chose the letters, numbers and symbols that I wanted to cut out. I wasn't sure what to cut the metal out with so I took a guess and used these scissors. It worked pretty well.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-329.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-329.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-329.jpg"/></a>
The edges were pretty sharp and so I used a file to smooth them out and round the corners.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-2270.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-2270.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-2270.jpg"/></a>
Next, I drilled some holes in the metal so I could make a tag or keychain.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-1208.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-1208.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-1208.jpg"/></a>
You can put the letters together to make a word, or just add an initial to enhance something.Pieces of Old: Terry Maciashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09545043560279300427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2001342319652818865.post-85507775438980158132014-07-12T06:15:00.000-07:002014-07-12T06:15:03.350-07:00Necklace Holder, Sign, and Closet Disaster!Yesterday I had such good intensions about getting some new posts ready for my blog. I made another necklace holder out of old wood and fuses.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-896.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-896.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-896.jpg"/></a>
Then I painted a piece of old wood to make a sign.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-778.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-778.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-778.jpg"/></a>
After that I thought I would clean 1 room in my house really well. I have completed the laundry room and my son's room. I walked by my closet and the pole holding my shirts and dresses had pulled itself out of the wall. This was totally my fault because it was so heavy and I just kept hanging more clothes on it. I do have a thing for clothes and it was time to purge! I had intended on doing this, but now the choice of when was no longer an option. Plus, I had to ask my husband to redo the pole in the closet, and he was busy. Well, he thought it was funny, even when their were piles of clothes all over our bedroom. I did not think it was funny!! I piled clothes up for the thrift store, made a pile to take to my sister, a stack to go to the dry cleaners, and hung the rest back up. I even hung them by colors. It felt good to get it done, but oh, brother! I figure the closet counts as a room, so that's one more off my list.Pieces of Old: Terry Maciashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09545043560279300427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2001342319652818865.post-47867015222513859902014-07-11T09:25:00.003-07:002014-07-11T09:25:44.874-07:00Vintage Rake/Scarf HangerThis rake was in the storage shed doing nothing but sitting there, so I decided to take it apart and use it. All I had to do was unscrew the handle and hang it up with twine. I've seen them used for wine glass holders, but I needed something to hang my scarves on. Quick & easy!

The pieces are all in one place, but each of the different jewelry parts are separated and easy to see in the glass cups. Every time i go to Michaels, Hobby Lobby or craft shows I bring stuff home, and now I just need to sit still and make some pretty jewelry!

This blue chair was a little sun bleached. ]
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-189.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-189.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-189.jpg"/></a>
I started out by taking a big piece of quilt I had left from another project and cut it in half. There was exactly enough to do both chairs. I just sewed a single piece of quilt to the top and bottom of the chair and stitched the quilted edge under. The chair already had a little pillow at the top and so I just stitched a quilt piece around it.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-190.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-190.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-190.jpg"/></a>
The last thing I made were some pillows to make it comfy and cozy! I put a little stand next to the chair, and I am ready for a summer evening outside. Now I just have to finish the other chair for my hubby!
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-191.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-191.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-191.jpg"/></a>Pieces of Old: Terry Maciashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09545043560279300427noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2001342319652818865.post-19880392899375808492014-07-07T12:13:00.001-07:002014-07-07T12:13:36.958-07:00Industrial PiggybankI found 2 of these glass gallon bottles today and I thought they would make super cute piggybacks! I took one of them and painted my initials & favorite number on the front of it with glass paint. Then I took a sprinkler knob and a glass door knob and put them together for my stopper.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-185.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-185.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-185.jpg"/></a>
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-186.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-186.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-186.jpg"/></a>
The next jar lid was made from a ceramic flower.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-187.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-187.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-187.jpg"/></a>
The last lid is just a vintage ceramic doorknob.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-188.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-188.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-188.jpg"/></a>
These jars would be cute with handmade labels, pictures, or any old thing on the front. You could use them for banks, drinks, buttons, or other small objects. I have to go, I want to get some more jars before they are all gone!

I used a metal stand, some old wood and a piece of glass for my table. I had a hickory chair and added some cushions to make it comfortable to sit. I had an antique canning holder with some old jars to put my art & sewing tools in. Next came a vase with fresh roses. Then, a major rain storm came and I ran for cover! You just never know about Arizona monsoons!!

Colorado Rockies and The Cherry Creek Art Festival!!I had the most wonderful 4th of July! My husband planned a trip for us to go and see the Colorado Rockies play baseball. We flew into Denver and stayed downtown. We played tourist the first day. We found our favorite eatery called The Yardhouse. The second day we went to the Colorado History Museum. I have to say it wouldn't have been my first choice to visit, and it was so incredible! While we were there we saw Indian Dancing and learned the history of the dances from the performing family.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-182.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-182.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-182.jpg"/></a>
Then we went to see the Rockies play the L.A. Dodgers. We went early to watch batting practice and look around Coors Field.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-178.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-178.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-178.jpg"/></a>

After the game there was a fireworks show. It was simply fab!

The following day we went to The Cherry Creek Art Festival. Oh my goodness, the artist's are so amazing! It is so inspiring to see all of the various artwork and techniques. My favorites were Amy Flynn who makes mixed media Fobots, Nathan Falter who does ceramics that look like oil cans, Valerie Bunnell who does mixed media sculptures and my husband's favorite was Theodore Gall who creates sculptures of bronze heads. This man's work was out of this world! He creates these faces and they open up and you see more intricate art. It's art inside of art. He was at the Scottsdale Art Festival in March, and if he comes back next year, make sure you go and see his art!

New Post!Oh, my! I love the new computer we got today. I have to admit, I got a lot done when I didn't sit in front of the computer last week. I recovered our computer chair. I used my blanket that didn't sell. It's comfortable and cute at the same time. Here's how it turned out.
<a href="http://s631.photobucket.com/user/maciasart/media/imagejpg1-174.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu37/maciasart/imagejpg1-174.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo imagejpg1-174.jpg"/></a>

Then I refinished my son's desk. I stripped the paint off the top and stained it, and then distressed the drawers and sided of the desk. This picture isn't very good, but I can't blame the computer! I also painted his room and rearranged it. It's funny because he works and lives in Chandler, but I still want him to feel like his room will always be his. I did put different bedding on his bed that his girlfriend will probably appreciate more than he will! I'll let you know how that goes!

This was my second time being a vendor at The Big Heap, and it was such a great time. My sister's were there selling our wares and my husband hauled everything to Flagstaff, unloaded stuff, set up camp and made everything perfect for us. Big thanks to them and all of you who came to support Sew Old Sew New, especially Sheryl!! I went around and took pictures on Friday. I was so good about taking pictures and asking for cards, but when I cam home today I couldn't figure out which picture went with which card. I'm going to post my pictures, and as I find out for sure who goes with which picture I will add it. The first picture is my sister Cindy and I in the "Sew Old Sew New" booth!

Here are some of the wonderful vendors that were not in their booths for pictures when I went around. Alteredeverafter.com check them out, their jewelry is unique and amazing! Then there were the coolest clocks ever, created by Half Past Clocks! I had some metal pieces that I got at a junk shop, and I made them into new stuff. The round medal piece with the glass piece (I can't remember what it's called), can be reversed as a pencil holder or a flower vase. The metal boxes can hold stuff, and would be fun on a desk or shelf.

I had this Prim Carriage in the last show and it didn't sell. I re-did the inside and marked it down in hopes that it finds a good home. Then I found the wicker table and chair and talked my hubby into cutting a wood top for it. I painted it and painted some roses in the center. I distressed it a little and waxed the top. I recovered the chair seat also.
Then.....I priced and tagged all my items for the show. I hate that job! I can't believe how much stuff I have and how hard it is to come up with prices. I wish there was an easy way to do that job. If you figure it out, please let me know. Some things I checked prices on Ebay and Etsy. I can't believe what people charge for some stuff.

I had pretty good luck with 3 projects and then the can started globbing up and I decided it was time to quit those projects for the day. Then I took a rustic wood frame with a wire back, and added little clothes pins and that was that! The next project was a piece of barnwood that I added glass fuses from the Habitat Store. These were easy projects for the sale this weekend.

With its little imperfections and perfectly aged look, what a charming piece. I decided to leave it just as it was, but add some fun pads and pillows to update it. I think it would be cute in any room, and it is comfortable to boot! The pillows are made out of canvas and can be thrown in the wash. If I had my cabin, this would be sitting on the porch!

No, it's actually a very soft pink. I finally fixed this quilt stand and gave it a quick coat of paint. I think it would also be very pretty to hang linens on. That's it for today. I got to go shopping in Phoenix, have lunch with my husband and son, and now we're watching the Diamonbacks play ball. What a great day! Hope you're having a great day too!

It's long and sort of deep. I decided to cover the top with a burlap potato sack. I think it would be great in a mud room for storage, in a kitchen for potatoes and such, or in a bedroom to use as a shoe box. It is sturdy, you can sit on it and it holds lots of stuff!
